Cars Are Too Expensive to Drive
With gas prices the way they are nowadays, it's becoming harder and harder to be able to drive a car. I take classes at a university almost 50 miles from my home. So in a typical week, I average around 500 miles. My car gets about 25-30 miles to the gallon, so that comes out to about 1.5 tanks of gas a week. With gas prices at $4.00 per gallon, I spend around $48 per tank; or $72 per week....on just gas! I am a full time college student that only makes around $125 a week working part-time on campus so needless to say things are starting to get tough. I am seriously considering selling my car to buy either a motorcycle or scooter. They get much better gas mileage and cost less to maintain. Car pooling or mass transit aren't really available options because of my distance from campus. I knew that moving away from home and being on my own would be difficult but I never expected the transportation to and from school to be one of the biggest struggles. Are we, the people, ever going to see relief from these prices? |
